The Nixie tube had its heyday from 1955 to the late 1960s. They were used wherever numbers and text had to be made visible. However, the development of LEDs had begun and in the mid-1970s, the LED began to take the place of the Nixie tube.

That would have ended the Nixie tube story were it not that, thanks to the internet where a group of enthusiasts found each other. They encouraged and inspired each other to revive this technique. That is also why we find you on our site: because there are still plenty of people who are mesmerized by this way of indicating time.
